The producer from the American Oprah Winfrey Show telephoned this week requesting footage of the ICE SAR team in action in Haiti.
Oprah is one of the most popular television programmes in the world and, according to Baldursdottir, the episode featuring Icelandic rescue workers in Haiti is due to be screened in the USA today (Wednesday).
“I told him that the footage would be easy to obtain,” Baldursdottir told Visir.is, because a Saga Film cameraman has been shadowing the team every day in Haiti and has been filming them regularly for the last two years.
Baldursdottir says that the producer of the show did not go into much detail, but it is clear that the show will not only be about the Icelandic rescue workers, but rather about the whole international Haiti earthquake response.
The Icelandic rescue team will be the second Icelandic element on Oprah, as the famous presenter has also interviewed journalist Svanhildur Holm Valsdottir in the past.
The ICE SAR rescue workers are currently based in Port au Prince. Baldursdottir says they are physically in good health but have had very little sleep. Current plans call for the team to return to Iceland within the next week.
